Laura Sheppard investigates the relationship between artist and dancer through collaboration with dancer Becky Power of Body Works Dance Company, Cambridge. Drawing from videos and live dance, Sheppard captures key movements to store moments of Becky’s dance as a fixed point in time. These drawings are small maps of experience at the heart of controlled and formalized movement. Sheppard has progressed onto producing large-scale kinetic works in various medias. These pieces of dance choreographed by herself and Power, to see whether artist and dancer could learn skills from one another, and create an uncontrolled outcome.
