There are characteristics consistent within each of Rosie McLay’s works; a keenness for material and a theme based on the typically unpleasant. Her artistic practice has progressed from studies of abandoned buildings and collages of dirt to more personal themes including death.“Our mortality is something rarely spoken of, we fear it, we deny it, and mostly experience it in theatrical and obscure representations in our modern culture. Yet for most of us, we’ll probably sink into a relief of the infinite silence in death, with our bodies asking to be freed from illness and hurt. We can ask where our soul goes, but I don’t think we know.”
